호텔 방 금고에 신발 한 짝 넣어두는 이유

곧 여름휴가철(summer vacation season)이다.

어쩌다 형편이 여의해서 국내외 피서를 가게 되면(go on a vacation at home or abroad) 호텔에 묵는 경우도 있다.

Sometimes we stay at a hotel when we go on a vacation at home or abroad.

그런데 호텔일지라도 이런저런 불편을 겪거나(experience inconveniences) 뭔가를 놓고 와서(leave something behind) 낭패 보기 십상이다(be likely to end up in trouble).

Nonetheless, we can experience inconveniences or leave something behind and are likely to end up in trouble. 

그런 이들을 위해 세계 곳곳을 오가는 비행기 승무원(globetrotting flight attendant)이 틱톡을 통해 유용한 조언을 공유해(share useful tips) 인기를 끌고 있다.

네덜란드 항공사 KLM 승무원(crew member) 에스더 스트러스씨의 시간·골칫거리 줄여주는(save you time and headaches) 여행 꿀팁을 살펴보자(take a look at her travel hacks).

Let's take a look at the travel hacks of  Esther, a crew member of Netherland airline KLM, to save you time and headache. 

건망증이 심한 여행객(forgetful traveler)은 호텔 방 금고에 신발 한 짝을 넣어둔다.

A forgetful traveler puts a shoe in a hotel safe.

체크아웃할 때 신발을 신지 않고 나갈(leave without putting on your shoes) 수는 없으니 금고 안의 귀중품(valuables in the safe)뿐 아니라 여권·휴대폰 등 다른 소지품도 두루두루 챙기게 된다(take care of all the other belongings).

You have to take care of all the other belongings such as your passport and a cell phone as well as valuables in the safe since you can't leave without putting on your shoes.

커튼이 제대로 맞물리지(fit properly) 않아 틈새로 햇빛이 쏟아져 들어올(pour in through the gap) 때가 있다.

Sometimes sunshine pours in through the gap because curtains don't fit properly.

그 틈을 여미는 요령이 있다. 옷걸이(hanger) 중 바지걸이용 집게 두 개가 밑에 달린 것이 있다.

There are some tips to fit it properly. There is a hanger with two clips to hang pants in the bottom. 

그 옷걸이를 세워(place the hanger upright) 집게들로 커튼의 벌어진 틈을 위아래 집어 고정하면 햇빛을 차단할(block sunlight) 수 있다.

You can block sunlight if you place the hanger upright and use the clip to close the gap between the curtains.

휴대폰 충전기(cell phone charger)를 갖고 가지 않았더라도 걱정할 필요 없다.

You also don't need to worry even if you don't have a cell phone charger.

휴대폰과 연결된 USB 플러그를 TV 뒤편 단자에 꽂아주면 전원에 연결되면서 충전이 된다(be connected to the power source and charged).

그런데 일행이 카드키를 갖고 나간 경우 속수무책이 된다(be at your wit’s end). 하지만 방법이 있다. 

But it gets at your wit's end if your party takes the card key. Still, there is a way.

신용카드나 신분증 카드를 꽂아도 방에 전원이 들어온다고(turn on the electricity) 한다.
